TODD MARINOVICH IS A FIEND:
“THE MARINOVICH PROJECT” AIRS SAT DEC 10TH @ 9PM ET ON ESPN
Marinovich. For a generation of sports fans, the name conjures an epic saga in a single word. Over time, the name has become shorthand for one of sport's most cautionary tales.
 Todd Marinovich was seemingly raised to be the perfect athlete, meticulously engineered and nurtured into a star quarterback. Dubbed “the bionic kid” and "Robo QB" by the media, his performance lived up to the name. He set records, vied for the Heisman at USC and was selected in the first round of the ‘91 NFL draft by his hometown LA Raiders. But two years later, he was out of the NFL, facing drug addiction and in search of a life beyond football. "The Marinovich Project" tells the unvarnished story of Todd's unique ascent to stardom, the dark descent that followed, and how Todd traded an opportunity at sports stardom for the chance to be himself.
“The Marinovich Project” airs Sat. Dec. 10 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN revealing the real person behind the persona and the story that has never been told.

His production is sound enough while retaining enough punk edge to make the album feel like an old familiar friend. The album has unreal hooks and feels like honest to God punk. This is a rare event these days with corporate pop/punk bands and mallcore crashing our industry. These kids sound like the real deal and write songs full of honest rage, frustration, hope and sadness. The album combines a classic punk rock sound with a modern feel; songs such as “Lorraine” and “American Dream” bounce with ska-like energy, while the tracks “Black Roses” and “When I Fall From Grace” feature cello and bagpipe arrangements, respectively. Formerly known as “The Goat” Arce, has transformed into a “Chupacabra”. Having been a fixture in the ‘Fits touring lineup for over a decade, he was recently inducted a permanent member upon the retirement of original Misfits drummer Robo, who’d passed the torch in 2010.

Misfits Records would like to update fiends everywhere regarding the safety and welfare of the members of Balzac, and their families, in the wake of the terrible events unfolding in Japan.
We’re happy to report that thankfully, the entire band, Hirosuke, Atsushi, Akio, and Takayuki, as well as their families and friends, are safe and unharmed. Balzac extends great thanks to everyone who is thinking of them.
A message from Hirosuke:
“This time, in the East, especially in the Tohoku area, it has become a massive disaster. Tokyo has also become quite chaotic. When something like this affects Tokyo, it has great effect on all of Japan. At the moment, the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor has become a very large worry.
Even though we are living in the West of the country, many of us are also affected by the disaster. It will take time to overcome everything that has happened, but all Japanese citizens are working hard and cooperating to reconstruct Japan.” |

 OSAKA POPSTAR ON THE SOUNDTRACK FOR “PHYSICS OF SURFING” IN 3D
A special ‘surf’s up’ mix of “Where’s the Cap’n?” is featured in “The Physics of Surfing”; PassmoreLab’s new 3D film that submerges viewers into the magnificence of surfing and the power of the ocean's waves.
The musical legacy of surfing is a rich and exciting element of surf culture and Osaka Popstar are pleased to be included on the soundtrack, (produced by Dusty Watson), alongside skate-punk pioneers Agent Orange, Slacktone and more. The John Cafiero penned cut by Osaka Popstar concludes the film, and continues on throughout the duration of the end credit roll.
Physics of Surfing has already had several 3D screenings in the Los Angeles area and is currently on exhibition in museums throughout Europe. In the festival circuit, the film has received an Award of Excellence at the Indie Film Festival and the 3D Excellence Award at the Asheville Children's Film Festival, the largest children’s film festival in the southeast. Most recently, Physics of Surfing screened at the Waimea Ocean Film Fest in Hawaii.

“Stickers: From Punk Rock to Contemporary Art” is a great new book by DB Burkeman and Monica LoCascio, with introductions by Shepard Fairey & Carlo McCormick. The book was published by Rizzoli, a leader in art and design books.

 In 1985 and 1999, the Cap'n disappeared. In 1985, Kids collected clues from three different cereal back panels to solve where the Cap'n had gone. The answer, released on December 14, 1985, revealed he was in the Milky Way. In Winter 1999, the Cap'n disappeared again. This time kids could log on to the internet to help solve the clues. In Spring 2000, the Cap'n was back. This time it was revealed he was in Volcanica (at the center of the Earth) saving the Earth's supply of Crunchium.

 A four-page feature article about the compilation will be included in the expanded 100th issue of Rue Morgue on newsstands in May. The article spotlights each artist and the song they contributed, exploring the origins of each track's conception.
